The Sound

Advanced Sonic Design

Improving the way you experience sound has been the focus of the Origin team for over three decades. These speaker designers and engineers have over 100 years of collective experience, have won hundreds of awards for their efforts and have invented numerous patented technologies that have dramatically advanced the art of sound reproduction. The Director Collection’s incredible performance is a direct result of their passion and commitment.

  The Ultimate Combination

Although a loudspeaker is much more than the sum of its individual parts, the quality of those parts is still a critical component in the speaker’s design. Every single element of an Origin speaker is carefully chosen with one goal in mind, to create the most awe inspiring sonic impression possible.

 Innovations and Inventions

A loudspeaker is an elaborate puzzle with a myriad of pieces that must precisely fit together. When a piece of a particular quality simply doesn’t exist, we invent it. The Director Collection is filled with these innovations, from the patented tweeter design to the mounting system, from the unique woofer surround to the pivoting mid/tweeter assembly, these speakers sound better because they are better.

   Shaking It Up

Creating deep dynamic bass requires moving lots of air. This means bigger drivers and typically bigger enclosures. The Origin team has developed a new design that allows us to fit an 8-inch woofer into a typical 6-inch baffle. Even more impressive we are able to fit a 10-inch woofer into a typical 8-inch baffle. What does this mean? It’s more bass in less space. The footprint in the ceiling is smaller and less obtrusive, but the sound they deliver must be heard to be believed.

Superior Materials

By selecting specific materials we are constantly working to reduce the weight of the cone and yet keep it very rigid. This means the woofer can react very quickly for better detail but also remain in its desired shape. The Director Collection features woofer cones made of injection molded graphite, glass fiber or Kevlar®. The glass fiber and Kevlar are pre-stressed and mounted to a paper backing to insure the material will not lose its shape by stretching later while the cone is in motion.

  Take Me Higher

Crystal clear high frequencies provide the nuances in a musical performance. Origin’s patented Dual Plane Stabilized Diaphragm or DPSDTM has an advanced suspension system that allows the tweeter to play louder, cleaner and with greater articulation, squeezing every last detail out of your recordings.

The Look

Making speakers to be heard and not seen has been our passion for decades. Once installed the only visible element is the grille that is magnetically attached to the speaker. The ultra-fine perforation pattern and incredibly thin outer bezel in the Director Collection hide the speaker and blend discreetly into any décor leaving nothing but an almost imperceptible shadow.

"
 " Blending In

For an even closer aesthetic blend, Origin grilles are designed to be painted to match the ceiling or the walls. This further disguises the grilles and makes them a seamless part of the room.

 Fitting In

Depending on room size, architectural features and performance requirements, the need for speakers in different shapes and sizes becomes quite necessary. With over 40 different choices in the Origin line there is a perfect option for every application regardless of the room or the interior design.

The Finish

" Like They Belong

The fit and finish of Origin speakers are as clean and impressive as their sound quality. Once installed the speakers become a part of the environment where they disappear unless, of course, your pride of ownership moves you to point them out.

Sound From Anywhere

One of the greatest benefits of the Director Collection is its incredible dispersion. The pattern of sound is wider than any other ceiling speaker on the market. This means better coverage and greater flexibility in speaker placement. In addition, the speaker’s unparalleled pivoting ability allows for the sound to be focused at the listening area regardless of where the speaker is positioned. These two elements are the final step in delivering incredible sound quality to the ear of the listener.

"
" Real World Installation

A unique and patented mounting system for ceiling installations secures the speakers in place and insures optimal sound reproduction regardless of the construction materials being used.

Certified Weatherproof

The Director Collection brings sonic perfection to outdoor soffits and patio areas with a certified weatherproof IPX6 rating. This rating ensures that these high-performance speakers are safe from from the corrosion and internal damage posed by ocean water and rainstorms.

Technology

More Bass For Your Space

The amount of air a driver can move is a function of its surface area and the length of its throw or excursion. Driving the lower frequencies in the Director D108, is a massive 10-inch woofer, which has 60% more surface area than its 8-inch counterpart. However, our engineers have been able to fit this driver into an assembly the size of our competitor’s 8-inch models. The result is a much smaller footprint with incredible bass. The woofer is carefully crafted from layers of Kevlar® fibers chosen for their lightweight and remarkable strength.

Tri-Linear-Configuration.png

Tri-Linear Configuration (TLC)

The Director D108 features three drivers in a unique linear alignment. This three-way design allows for broader frequency response and superior power handling. The 3-inch midrange is made of woven Kevlar and the tweeter is our proprietary DPSD radiator.

Director-Technology.png

Director Technology

The ability to point or “direct" the sound toward a specific area in the room is critical when the speakers are mounted in the ceiling. The Director 10 features a mid-tweeter assembly that can be adjusted to focus the sound toward the listening area regardless of the speaker’s position in the ceiling. This allows for the speakers to be used in many applications. One example is a home theater where the soundstage, relative to the screen, is crucial. The seating area can be off axis and still remain in the “sweet-spot."

EQ-Adjustments.png

EQ Adjustments

A switch on the speaker baffle, behind the grille, allows the installer to fine-tune the speaker’s performance through treble adjustment. This is essential as the speaker’s proximity to adjacent walls and soffits can dramatically affect frequency response.

Dual-Plane-Stabilized-Diaphragm.png

Dual Plane Stabilized Diaphragm (DPSD™)

A patented innovation that dramatically improves high-frequency performance, the DPSD™ radiator uses a unique suspension design that maintains the tweeters alignment throughout a larger frequency range. The suspension is attached at both the voice-coil and the peak of the dome allowing the driver to be crossed over at a much lower frequency. This results in improved dispersion and decreased distortion.

X-Wave-Woofer-Surround.png

X-Wave Woofer Surround

While in motion, frequencies between 700-1,400 Hz typically run up the cone of a woofer and are reflected back and forth from the center of the driver. This creates unwanted harmonic distortion. The X-Wave surround found in Origin woofers absorbs these frequencies reducing distortion and maintaining driver stability. This design also maximizes cone area by reducing the width of the surround.

Progressive-Suspension.png

Progressive Suspension

As the driver travels to the limits of its excursion, the suspension, made up of the spider and the surround, becomes more rigid, exerting more control on the movement of the cone. The result is increased, clean power output throughout the driver’s frequency range.

Compression-Molded-Woofer-Baskets.png

Compression Molded Woofer Baskets

Utilizing the latest techniques and materials in plastic fabrication, Origin is able to create basket designs with superior stability and acoustic neutrality. These baskets combine with the driver suspension to increase linearity and improve overall performance.

Zip-Cliq-Mounting-System.png

Zip-Cliq Mounting System

It is important when installing a loudspeaker in the ceiling that it be stable and secure, restricting the vibration of the assembly and limiting transfer of energy into the wall. The revolutionary Zip-Cliq™ Mounting System (Patents Pending) spreads the weight of the speaker over a larger area than typical mounting systems accomplishing this result with minimal effort. Spring-loaded clips also create more uniform pressure against the drywall eliminating any warping or distortion of the speaker baffle.

Magnetic-Grille.png

Magnetic Grille

A paintable, perforated grille with a micro bezel covers the entire speaker assembly and leaves a discreet finished appearance. Its magnetic attachment makes removing or replacing the grille fast and easy.

Let-it-Sink-in.png

Let it Sink in

With an IPX6 rating, the entire Director Collection is at the top of the class. This rating ensures that these high-performance are safe from the corrosion and internal damage commonly posed by exposure to ocean water and rainstorms--backed by a lifetime warranty.
